Young Scientist rejoice: Parramatta Powerhouse receives a $30 Million Gift

The Parramatta Powerhouse has received the second-largest gift for a Western Sydney institution ever, $30 Million. The Walker Family Foundation contributing $20 M and Western Sydney University contributing $10 M.

The large sum will go towards the Powerhouse’s Lang Walker Academy named after the Australian billionaire and co-founder of Walker Corp, a property development company that is continuously in Western Sydney’s future.

The programs will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) for the next generation of scientists from Western Sydney and Australia including, overnight accommodation attached to the Powerhouse for those traveling regionally. Mr Walker said the academy will enable them to succeed in the hi-tech job market of the future.

have ensured an additional 10,000 students can access this life-changing education a year according to Chief Executive, Lisa Havilah.

Museum Trust President Peter Collins has said “There will be no STEM learning program like this in Australia and I can’t wait to see this groundbreaking Academy program develop.”

The New Powerhouse will start construction early next year with an additional headquarters in Riverside. Construction is set to be completed by 2024.
