The NSW Health app may have sent you a Covid-19 case alert in the past three weeks however the feature doesn’t automatically notify smartphone users.
Over 700,000 notifications have been sent as Customer Service Minister, Victor Dominello, says the function is vital to move forward in living with the virus. He said that the feature is to help assist contract tracers during the re-opening of Sydney and eventually, Australia.
To view the feature users go through the history of their check-ins, a red ‘Covid’ icon will appear next to the venues that have a positive case attend on the same day.
A Service NSW spokesperson encouraged those who see the icon on their app to monitor for symptoms and get tested if they feel unwell.
Jim Mussared, the software developer that discovered some security issues with the app, said that a push notification should be added to properly inform people if they’ve visited a venue of concern.
Victor Dominello has announced push notifications will be part of an update on the 1st of December.
