Facebook is taking a focus in Groups on their platform, as they suffer more accusations in prioritising profits over the safety of its users.
On Thursday Facebook announced that it’s testing ways for group admins to create subgroups. They’re also testing ways that subgroups could be charged a subscription fee to gain access to exclusive content from their group such as networking, coaching, or fundraising. They will also allow for greater customisation of groups, being able to change fonts, colours and reaction emojis for posts.
Facebook has been focused on groups on their platform since 2017, encouraging people to engage in community subcultures and discussion. This however has lead to the rise of misinformation, and extremist groups gathering online.
This all comes on the back of Facebook changing the name of their parent company to Meta.
