Gold Coast Titans and Indigenous All Stars forward Ryan James got nervous speaking in front of 80,000 people and forgot his lines on Grand Final day. There is no shame in that.
But TFH, the construction and event hire company who sponsor the Titans, have reportedly severed their sponsorship deal with the team. In a letter allegedly sent to the NRL club, TFH pulled their money for 2020, citing James’ mess up as the cause. Understandably the NRL world has blown up social media to express their outrage over TFH’s cold hearted actions.
Asked to deliver the welcome to country before the NRL Grand Final, James floundered mid speech, only able to deliver a sheepish “I’m Lost” before smiling awkwardly. Luckily Natalie Bassingthwaighte stepped into to rescue proceedings. That is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, James’ courage to stand up and speak in public should be applauded.
Pulling your support for a team due to poor on field performances is one thing. But TFH throwing Ryan James under the bus is just not cricket.
