Darlinghurst Resident Fighting on Behalf of NSW Pets

As New South Wales population grows, its more and more common for people to live in apartment buildings, but up until one week ago, building strata’s the legal right to stop apartment owners from having pets from having their furry friends living in their homes.

Haylee & Rob welcomed Darlinghurst resident Johanna Cooper to the show to talk about her battle with the NSW government that has lasted for over 5 years now.

Rob asked Johanna about a Facebook post she recently made thanking the public for their support, but also revealed she had been physically and verbally abused by people during her fight too. When asked about the response from the public throughout the journey, Johanna said “it’s showed me the real ugly side of humanity, and that’s just escalated in the past week” and went on to tell the breakfast team that issue has been reported to the police.

In a time when people feel more isolated than ever, pets can help with mental health massively. The next step for this basic right is to change strata legislation in NSW to remove the blanket banning of pets in apartments across the state.
