Seven has announced smash hit Australian Idol will be returning to Australian TV screens for the first time in over a decade.
“The biggest show in the world comes to Seven in 2022, and we know Australians are going to love it,” said Seven’s director of programming Angus Ross.
“We can’t wait to bring Idol back to Australian audiences in 2022, putting our prime time content line-up even further ahead of the competition”.
The talent show is famous for discovering a who’s who of top-selling artists, including Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Casey Donovan, Matt Corby and Ricki-Lee Coulter.
The broadcaster is also bringing back SAS Australia, The Voice, Big Brother, Farmer Wants A Wife and Australia’s Got Talent after announcing their 2021 line-up on Wednesday morning.
Longtime reality show staples My Kitchen Rules and House Rules will not be renewed following the broadcaster’s decision to shift away from in-house productions.
“[V]iewers are looking for something fresh and different. So we’ve rested them. We’ll bring them back at the right time when we’ve got the right momentum and they can be freshened up”, said Seven chief executive James Warburton.
