South Australian AFL team, Port Adelaide Power, are in hot water after a designer called them out for the new logo they released over the weekend. Designer, Dean Robinson, responded to their tweet revealing the logo by asking where to send the invoice.
The new logo has been released to celebrate the clubs 150th anniversary. They said “We believe we have identified a logo that presents an image of strength that is a statement of Port Adelaide’s past, present and future.”
Robinson posted his logo ideas in August 2015 and the similarities are evident.
His response blew up and has lead to Robinson highlighting the issues around the apparent copyright issue, including the difference between copyright and trademark.
The club maintains that the logo was the result of an “exhaustive, consultative approach engaging several agencies, focus groups, former player and administrators and current players in reaching this outcome.”
